Description
This webinar is for epi members & epi students only!
AI patents are on the rise, yet securing robust protection remains a complex challenge that requires navigating an evolving legal landscape. This provides a structured, practical guide for European patent attorneys facing the unique hurdles of algorithmic inventions. We will move beyond abstract theory to focus on the concrete drafting techniques and strategic choices that determine success before the EPO. We will also tackle the critical commercial question of what to protect. Rather than focusing solely on the "black box" algorithms, we will analyze how to construct a patent portfolio that captures the most valuable aspects of an AI solution, shifting focus from the often abstract algorithms to the tangible touchpoints that drive market value.
What we will cover:
- Legal Framework & Latest Case Law: A comprehensive overview of the current rules governing AI patentability, with an analysis of recent, pivotal decisions and their direct impact on examination standards.
- Concrete Drafting Advice: Practical, hands-on tactics for satisfying the "Big Three" requirements: establishing technical character, demonstrating an inventive step, and meeting the strict bar for sufficiency of disclosure.
- Strategic Claiming & The UI: Guidance on how to dissect an AI solution to identify the strongest assets. We will highlight how to protect the User Interface (UI) and user interaction features as particularly valuable tools for blocking competitors.
