Harmonisation Committee
Size:
The Harmonisation Committee shall have a maximum of ten full members.
Task of the Committee:
The Harmonisation Committee shall deal with questions concerning the worldwide Harmonisation of Patent Law.
What is expected from a member of this committee?
The work of the epi Harmonisation Committee (“HC”) is cyclical and, at the moment, we are in a VERY busy phase. The EPO are studying Substantive Patent Law Harmonisation (“SPLH”) and Group B+ are also working on some aspects of SPLH. I would expect, in the first year of election of the new HC, to have at least one “real” meeting of HC, two meetings in the EPO and a number (at least four, most probably more) ZOOM meetings of HC. HC will also need to follow the workings of the Standing Committee on the Law of Patents at WIPO.
Additional requirements:
To play a useful part in the HC, members obviously need an excellent knowledge of EPC as well of the patent law of United States, Japan and China as well as a good knowledge of the patent law of as many other countries as possible.
